It should be possible to specify regular expressions that would match metadata fields (such as artist, album, title, genre, etc) to parts of the full filename and path of a media file.
In the case of music, this would be used if ID3 tag information was not present within the file (or the user had turned off ID3 processing).
In the case of movies, this information would be used if there were no details available from the online movie information sources (or the user has turned them off).
Not sure how much use this would be for pictures!
